Blog 18: Third Answer

Content:

Just like you did for answer 1 and 2 post your:
  • EQ: What is the best resource a special ed team can provide high function children in elementary school to promote academic success?
  • Answer #3 (Write in a complete sentence like a thesis statement)*
    • The relationship between the teacher and the parents of the child should be positive and effective to the student's learning.
  • 3 details to support the answer (a detail is a fact and an example)
    • "The manner in which schools communicate and interact with parents affects the extent and quality of parents' home involvement with their children's learning. For example, schools that communicate bad news about student performance more often than recognizing students' excellence will discourage parent involvement by making parents feel they cannot effectively help their children."
    • There are a lot of benefits of good parental involvement in their children's education, by getting ideas of how to help and support their children. (Such as learning about new programs the school has to offer.
    • "There are other advantages for children when parents become involved — namely, increased motivation for learning, improved behavior, more regular attendance, and a more positive attitude about homework and school in general."
  • The research source (s) to support your details and answer
    • Interview 1
    • Building Parent-Teacher Relationships

By: American Federation of Teachers (2007)
  • Concluding Sentence:
    • A student should be able to go to school with a positive mentality and be able to get encouragement from their parents and the school.

Senior Project, The Holiday

Content:

1.  It is important to consistently work on your senior project, whether it is break or we are in school.  What did you over the break with your senior project?

 - Since I do my hours working on Senior Project at a school I couldn't really do anything since they were also on break. But I did do some more research on my topic that way  I wouldn't get too behind. I also went to go visited Los Angeles twice over break to see their medical facilities; since LA has such a large population of people.

2.  What was the most important thing you learned from what you did and why?  What was the source of what you learned?

- From visiting LA I know that there are an increasing amount of autistic children. Where I live I would probably see about one autistic child every week if I were to go out more frequently on a daily basis. But over in LA, in one day I've had seen about five; autistic children aren't easily seen going out during the day.

3.  If you were going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to answers of your EQ, who would you talk to and why?

- A psychologist that specializes in treating and helping autistic children. They would be the most helpful because they are the ones who really get to work with the children and are specially trained to help them.

EQ

Content:

1. I reviewed the Rule of Three for writing an EQ.
Essential Question
Once a topic is chosen, the student will develop a working essential question.  The purpose of the working essential question is to help the student build a strong foundation of research which will allow him or her to create an essential question that encourages depth and rigor in the chosen topic. An essential question must:
  • Provide a framework for studies (It calls for breadth and depth of research, Is not a yes/no question)
  • Takes a stance (Allows you to argue some point, Cannot be a recitation of facts or a list)
  •  Format (It is specific, The wording makes sense)
2.  Review the following EQs and
  • Tell us if it meets the rule of 3 criteria.
  • Tell why it does or why it doesn't
 a.  What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
- Yes; you can argue of many different ways of losing weight in healthy ways, it is also very specific and it is evident that research is required in order to find out different answers to the EQ.

 b.  What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
-  Yes; you can come up with various answers for this EQ and it is also to the  point and specific. This is something that can be researched.

 c.  What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
- Yes; also to the point/wording makes sense, it relates to everyone for the most part.

 d.  How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?
- No; not very understandable

3.  Based on your review of the rule of 3 and your experience with assessing four EQs, please write another draft EQ for your senior project.

- What is most important to helping an autistic child in life's everyday challenges?

Blog 5: Project Reflection and Working EQ

Content:

Using what you have done so far, answer the following 5 questions (be specific and use examples).

The Pentagon:
(1) Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?

- I got to work with a teacher I've been knowing for five years now.

(2) EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?

- One of my pieces of research () has shown me how a teacher should know how to use psychology when it is needed. For example, when I was doing mentorship hours at Cortez a student started crying because she forgot her folder and so the teacher would just use kind and reassuring words but she also made sure the student knew not to forget her materials for class.

(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?

- Being able to have a close bond with the people at the school I'm doing my mentorship at.

(4) What hasn't worked so far?

- I wanted to get a mentorship at an health organization that worked with psychologists but finding one where I could get mentorship was hard. As for finding forensic science based field (I needed to pay a lot of money in order to get into the Forensic Academy).

(5) Finding Value:

  •  What is a potential question you would like to study this year?  (working EQ)
- How can psychology be used in an educational foundation?
  •  What do you plan to do for mentorship?  If you haven't found a mentor yet, then discuss where you are currently looking and who you are talking to to find it.
- My mentorship will be at Cortez Elementary School although I would've really liked to have gotten in a forensic field. My mentor is a 3rd grade teacher named Mrs. Smith.
